To see where I have been so far, check out my map as I count down the final 93 countries on the road to all 193 UN countries.  Eritrea is my 101st country.

Eritrea is considered one of the more difficult countries in the world to visit. This country is ranked lower in press freedoms than even North Korea, and it appears in general they have no desire for tourists to explore their country.

Being on the email list for Young Pioneer Tours, I was notified that YPT was rolling out its inaugural tour to Eritrea to celebrate the country’s independence from Ethiopia.  I had heard through the travel grapevine that founder, Gareth Johnson, was connected and would be able to obtain visas for the group.

In short order, with an application and a scanned copy of my passport, YPT arranged a Visa On Arrival for my visit.

Eritrea barely visited by western tourists is an undiscovered gem.  Would love to go back again and explore more!
