Three Days of Luxury in Khao Lak.  Travel blogging does not rank highly in the hierarchy of well-paid careers, but it does come with some awesome benefits.  After spending three days roughing it on Surin Islands in very rustic accommodations (either tents or simple bungalows), I arrived at the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa as an invited guest.  I was to be pampered for three days.

JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa’s 200 rooms are spread across perfectly manicured grounds resting on the beach.  This is the type of resort where you don’t want to leave the grounds.  And in fact, for three days I spent my time lounging around the resort.  The hotel is well known for the longest pool in South East Asia, in fact, it is more like a river that snakes around the entire resort.

I checked into my room and smiled.  I eyed the marble shower complete with overhead rain shower, a much better alternative than the hose I showered with in Surin Islands.

I opened up the curtains and realized I had direct access to the swimming pool, by simply walking several steps into the pool from my private patio.

And within moments, a coconut was delivered to my patio.  A unique delivery system!

This was followed up with a banana and Bailey’s frozen drink at the swim-up-bar.  Difficult to stop at one.

The resort is not short of dining options.  The breakfast was one of the most impressive spreads I have seen.  Including delectable crispy bacon/cheddar omelets, freshly made mango and strawberry smoothies, and homemade donuts.  It was too easy to gorge myself here.

I also dined at the surprisingly, reasonably-priced Italian restaurant, Olive.  Here I enjoyed fresh burrata cheese, an awesome tiramisu dessert, and washed down the meal with a couple of generous Aperol Spritzes.

Another dinner was on the outside patio accompanied by lily pads at Sakura.  I ate grilled ribeye and Wagyu steak accompanied with mustard and garlic sauce.  I sipped on a half carafe of warmed sake.

Lunch took place on the beach.  I sat at table resting under an umbrella, my feet stirring the sand underneath the table.  I started with a Lebanese mezze followed by a chicken tikka wrap and washed it down with a margarita on the rocks.

Adjacent to me, were scores of blue chaise lounges protected by white umbrellas staring at the ocean.  Soaring palm trees stood sentry on the beach.  I watched as guests floated by on stand-up paddle boards.  It was difficult to decide whether to relax on the beach or my private patio next to the pool.

JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort is a perfect place to unwind and relax.  It would be easy to spend a week at the resort lounging around and being pampered.  Or, of course, it is a perfect base to explore Khao Lak and the islands of the Andaman Sea.
