I decide after Christmas to visit three Central American countries over New Years. With these three countries (Honduras, Guatemala & Belize), I would be finished with Central America.
So escaping the cold winter I arrived in San Pedro Sula and headed directly for to the magnificent Copan ruins, which was part of the Mayan civilization. It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The added bonus is the town of Copan which is very walkable, with tons of shops and restaurants. A great base to relax and explore the ruins.

Honduras has been on my radar since 2009. My buddy and I were supposed to go for a 2 1/2 week trip to explore the mainland and go to Utila to get PADI certified by another friend of mine who was living there at the time as a Scuba diving instructor. Three days before our trip was supposed to begin, the President was overthrown in a Coup d’etat. We ended up heading to Belize instead. If it weren’t for the political instability and gang crime, then Honduras would be the best Central American country to visit in terms of activities, culture, and cost for travelers.
I guess it worked out well, since Belize ended up being your favorite country!
