Andorra is a landlocked city-state in the Pyrenees nestled between Spain and France. Andorra can trace its history to the 10th century. Oddly, the country is headed by two Co-Princes – the Catholic Bishop of Urgell in Spain, and the President of France. The country’s economy is powered by its 10 million plus visitors a year who gorge on duty free shopping. Other drivers are the banking industry and skiing.
Upon renting a car at the Barcelona airport I eventually made my way to Andorra after spending some time in Costa Brava. The drive was relaxing and enjoyable, passing small, medieval Spanish towns, and mountain landscapes. The irritating part of the drive were the very expensive tolls and seemingly frequent.
I arrived in the capital of Andorra and checked in my hotel in the center of town. I spent the afternoon taking in the sites and gorging myself at a buffet in a shopping mall. I felt like a tourist but I successfully managed not to purchase anything.
