A five night trip to Fiji was unfortunately shortened to two nights. A brutal snowstorm ripped through the Northeast shutting down the airport in Boston. My flight to Fiji was rescheduled for three days later. Fiji a South Pacific Island gained its independence from the Brits in 1970. I was surprised to learn that nearly 40% of the people on Fiji have an Indian background. They were brought to Fiji by the Brits as indentured workers to farm sugar cane during the 19th century. Many remained after their contract.
My brief time in Fiji was spent lounging around at the Hilton Resort and also spending a day with Coral Cats on a day snorkel trip. Even though it was a short trip, it was great to escape the winter cold of the US.

What a amazing pictures you captured. Really a nice post. Thank you so much for sharing it.
That’s interesting to hear that 40% of Fijians are of Indian descent as a result of the indentured labour movement. I’m familiar about the Caribbean’s history with the practice as my Wife’s Great-Grandmother left India for Trinidad & Tobago at the turn of the 20th Century. Had no clue that it also expanded to the South Pacific Islands, as well. Although, it does make sense when you think about it given Indians had to sail by them en route to South America and the Caribbean Islands.
Yeah, always learning something. It is a crazy, big and interesting world.
