Enjoy these incredible photos of Berlin.
The Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin’s best known landmarks. This triumphal arch was built in the 18th century. During the division of Berlin in the cold war, the Brandenburg Gate was inaccessible to those in the west being cordoned off by the Berlin Wall. With the fall of the wall in 1989, thousands of west and east Berliners celebrated at the Brandenburg Gate.
Another very well known landmark is the Reichstag building which was completed in 1894. The Reichstag has held the legislative body of Germany. The building caught fire in mysterious circumstances in 1933. This gave pretext for the Nazis to suspend many rights in Germany. During the cold war, this building resided within the west, but it was within feet of the Berlin Wall.
The Berlin Cathedral is a magnificent church in the heart of the city built in 1905. Head to the top of the church for an amazing view of the Berlin panorama.
Gendarmenmarkt is a beautiful square with two churches standing sentry, the German and the French Cathedrals. This area was constructed at the end of the 17th century.
And remember to avoid these things when traveling to Berlin.
