Mrauk U Princess Resort. I am not sure how they did this, almost like sleight of hand. My car rolled up to the Mrauk U Princess Resort. I slid out of the seat, covered in dust, sweaty after a full day of exploring the temples. And there waiting for me was a staff member, with a cold, slightly scented towel. While this was an incredibly nice touch, I was most impressed that he also held in his hand the key to my private Village House. How did the staff know it was me in the car, and not another guest? This is the attention to detail and service that you may expect at the Mrauk U Princess.
The resort is set a bit out of town, providing a serene and laid back setting. I felt like a prince as I walked the grounds. Two ponds replete with lily pads and purple lotus flowers separate the Village Houses from the restaurant and lobby area. The pool seems to magically float in one of the ponds. Perfect to cool down in after a day in the hot sun.
The traditional Village House is incredibly spacious at over 70 square meters, with a separate sitting area and a luxurious bath area. In the evening, I relaxed on my private deck, with a cool drink, looking out over the pond. The Mrauk U Princess provides for an intimate setting with only 23 Village Houses.
Mrauk U Princess also has committed to being a good member of the local community. They provide many good paying jobs to approximately 90 employees. Working with farmers, the resort generates electricity from discarded rice husks. And they also worked with local artisans to create stone carvings and artwork at the resort.
Mrauk U Princess is part of Secret Retreats, which is a community of small boutique hotels, villas, cruises and restaurants throughout Asia. The independent owners and chefs of this organization have pooled their resources to create genuine travel experiences. The community is also focused on their mission of supporting local communities, the environment, and sustainable travel. During my stay, it was difficult to peel myself away from my room and the grounds. But Mrauk U needs to be explored extensively. Outside of Bagan, this is the second greatest collection of temples in Myanmar.
And in comparison to Bagan, there are only a handful of tourists, making Mrauk U, a very special experience. The hotel can also arrange a very interesting and unique experience to some local Chin (an ethnic tribe) Villages. Some of the women in the village have traditional facial tattoos.
After spending time here, I understand why this resort is ranked as the number one hotel on TripAdvisor in Mrauk U. I would highly recommend staying at the Mrauk U Princess, and I hope to have the opportunity to stay again. Mrauk U Princess Resort. Make a reservation today.
