Lemu Lodge Vaihu – Must-Stay. Lemu Lodge Vaihu sits in isolation facing the Pacific Ocean on a working Rapa Nui farm. Most lodging options are found in the main town of Hanga Roa, but Lemu Lodge Vaihu offers a tranquil alternative. The lodge offers four bungalows and two luxury suites with an accompanying Club House. The red-roofed Club House includes the restaurant, bar, and just a great place to relax. The lodge offers a laid-back and intimate setting.
I stayed in one of the luxury suites, a high-ceiling tented room. The tensile-structured suites reminded me of a bit of glamping on safari with their tent-like roofs. The room was bathed in white with natural wood, with a sitting area and a very comfortable bed.
Wide sliding glass doors open up to a wooden patio. Across the way, I listened to the ocean lap against the shore as I read my book on my personal patio.
Adjacent to my suite is the Club House, known as a Hare in the local Rapa Nui language. This Club House formally served as the farmer’s family home before being converted to serve its current role. The Club House plays three roles … the restaurant, a small bar, and a great place to relax on giant couches. At the bar, I would sip on fruit juices and of course, the occasional Pisco Sours.
Easter Island is a very remote place, with access being a daily flight from Santiago or a weekly flight from Tahiti. Everything is flown into the island and that includes most of Easter Island’s food. Lemu Lodge Vaihu with its own farm provides some if its own fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat.
The farm even has a small herd of horses. Through the lodge, you can arrange to ride a horse to go explore the island.
Resources are stretched thin on Easter Island. Lemu Lodge Vaihu has committed to protect the island’s environment. The lodge is utilizing solar panels (and hopes to have the lodge run exclusively on solar power in the future) to reduce its need of diesel generators and also utilizing LED lighting throughout the grounds. The lodge also utilizes a rain collection system since fresh water is limited on the island. Other efforts include recycling and composting.
I looked forward to breakfast every morning in the Club House. It was a farm-to-kitchen breakfast with fresh fruit, bread, jams, and eggs.
Lemu Lodge Vaihu has a professional chef on staff. For one lunch, I had a special treat. I spoke with Marcos the chef who created a customized menu after a brief consultation. Chicken from the farm with a brown sauce and mushrooms.
And, of course, an incredible dessert. Another great experience arranged with the lodge, was a fishing expedition with Chef Marcos which included cooking the freshly caught fish.
The staff was another highlight during my stay at Lemu Lodge Vaihu. They were continually helpful, friendly, and gracious; ensuring that my stay was excellent. One morning the staff surprised me with a picnic basket filled with sandwiches when I left early to catch the sunrise.
I also had the opportunity to meet one of the partner-owners of the hotel, JR, who is a passionate traveler himself.
Lemu Lodge Vaihu is located on the southern part of the island on the coastal road. It is about 10-15 minutes from the airport and Hanga Roa, the main town. The lodge includes complimentary pick up, and I was greeted with a garland of flowers. In 15 minutes you can also reach Ahu Tongariki for an amazing sunrise. It is recommended that you rent a car to provide you more flexibility. The staff at the lodge can assist in renting a car.
Lemu Lodge Vaihu is a perfect solution to explore Easter Island. Lemu Lodge Vaihu offers luxury, comfort with high-touch service from its staff.

Never mind how isolated Easter Island is. Love the drone footage you shot over Lemu Lodge Vaihu. Talk about complete isolation!
True … most of the hotels are centered in town. Lemu is isolated on its own, peaceful and relaxing.
[…] I stayed at Lemu Lodge. Lemu is set away from Hanga Roa located on a Rapa Nui farm. The intimate lodge is exceptionally peaceful and tranquil, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The spacious rooms are luxurious and bathed in white. And finally, the staff is friendly, outgoing, and attentive. Staying at Lemu Lodge was a highlight of my trip. Read more about my stay here. […]
