20 Best Photos 2017

20 Best Photos 2017.  The year is not quite over, but my international travels are until the end of the year.  And, I did tell a white lie, there are more than 20 photos in this post.

Algeria

I spent a fabulous two week exploring Algeria, a new country for me.  It is an undiscovered gem.

Bhutan

I went back for my second visit to this unique and amazing country.  Isolated with less than 700,000 people, it is a must-visit.

Bolivia

On my list to visit for quite some time, I finally made my first visit in 2017 to Bolivia.  Highlights included Salar de Uyuni, La Paz, and Lake Titicaca.

Burkina Faso

Another new country, I visited Burkina Faso in a hot and sunny May. Highlights included the painted village in the south, Tiebele.

Chile

Federated States of Micronesia (Yap)

This was a pleasant surprise on the upside.  My first real visit to the Pacific.  Yap one of the four main islands of FSM is beautiful and interesting.  And great snorkeling!

France

My second visit to France, I spent a couple of days in Nice as I planned a day trip to Monaco.  I really enjoyed Nice and walking around the seaside city.

Guatemala

I started the year celebrating New Year’s Eve in Antigua.  A couple of days later I was discovering the Mayan ruins of Tikal.  This was my first visit to Guatemala.

Laos

I had visited Laos many years ago in 2005. This was my second visit to Luang Prabang a UNESCO town on the banks of the Mekong River.   A great place to visit in South East Asia.

Mexico

I had technically visited Mexico before, but it almost doesn’t count since it was Cancun.  This year I spend several days exploring the historic capital of Mexico City.

Myanmar

My third visit to Myanmar, and hope to visit many more times.  It is a fantastic country.  I went back to revisit to of my favorite places Bagan, filled with thousands of temples, and Yangon, the former capital.  I discovered new ground, when I went to visit Mrauk-U, a more remote, temple filled town.

Niger

I went to visit Niger, a new country for me, in May.  Hot and humid. Poor and dirty.

Palau

A second gem of the Pacific.  I spent several days snorkeling in these amazing waters.  A new country for me in 2017.

Peru

I had been here several years ago exploring the Amazon and Lima.  This year I went to visit the magical Sacred Valley including of course Machu Picchu.

Spain

My third visit to Spain, but this visit included Girona, a medieval town in Costa Brava that many of my friends have raved about for years.

Thailand

So much to visit in this country and I revisited Surin Islands but this times spent a couple of nights and day times included snorkeling of a long boat.  I went to the Sak Yant Festival for my 4th time.

Tunisia

I visited Tunisia for my first time and it was too brief

a visit.  A highlight included the Bardo Museum.

Turkey

My third visit to Turkey.  A repeat visit to Istanbul and also got to explore Cappadocia and Pamukkale.
